Note This family is likely to be related to, my ancestor, Peter McGINNIS as they lived within several miles of each other in the 1870, Kankakee Co. IL Census.
I have been unable to find any proof of this link.
Oral tradition in the Michael McGINNIS family of Kankakee, IL, claims that Michael's mother died and his father remarried, having several children by his second wife (including Frank, William, Michael, a fourth son, and at least one daughter who married a CAHILL in the La Salle area) (Many of this second family settled around Orland Park, IL). Michael came to the United States and his half brothers followed. Perhaps my ancestor Peter McGINNIS is one of the half brothers.
Apparently, a Brother Leander Paul McGINNIS, who taught at Lewis University was a descendant of Michael McGINNIS' half-brother, Frank, and that he kept a family tree, although research of census and family records says that Brother McGINNIS was the son of Rayfiel, and the descendant of Michael, listed below.
John Raphael had a nephew, Brother Brian McGINNIS, who was also a member of the DeSalle brothers, see information below.

Muriel's grandfather O'Brien was an only son, and although born in the US he went several times by boat to IRE in the 20`s and Muriel remembers taking him to the boat. It was a big deal. Her mother was an only child and died when Muriel was young. this from telephone conversation 2007/11/18
